Virgil Lee Murphy

Virgil Lee Murphy – Born November 9, 1948, at General Hospital Cincinnati, Ohio. He was in the Hamilton County Child Care system until age four and placed in a foster home of William and Mary Murphy. He lived in Mason Ohio and attend K – third grade in Mason Public Schools. He had four stepbrothers, Earl, Bob, Duke, Tom, and one sister, Donna. He was eventually adopted in 1960. In 1986, he was reunited with his maternal brothers and sister in Virginia, at which time he learned that he had been living within 2 miles of his maternal brother for several years.
He moved to Goshen in 1956 and attended Goshen Schools, graduated in 1966. He was a member of the Choir in the seventh and eighth grades as well as a member of Goshen’s JV and Varsity Football teams from 1962 – 1965, as an offensive guard and defensive linebacker. He also served as equipment manager for high school basketball from 1962 – 1964 and played a Civil Defense worker in the school production of "The Mouse that Roared and a Beekeeper in another production. Member Varsity "G" Club, 1963 – 1966.
He was married in 1969 to Vicky Juillerat and had two children, Scott and Kelly. Both children are Graduates of Goshen, Class of 1997 and 2002 respectively.
He also served as an on-field medical for football (before trainers) from 1992 - 1996 and coached Goshen JYVSoftball under Head Coach Bob Wright and Varsity Assistant Coach under Bryan Russell from 1998-2007.
After graduation, Murphy become a member of the Goshen Community Fire Dept. as a Cadet until reaching age 21. Upon turning 21, he became a regular member and served in many officer positions until he was appointed Chief in 1980. In 1985, become the first Full-time Chief of Goshen and served in that position until 2009 when he retired. He still serves with the Stonelick Township Fire and Rescue as an on-call member.
Murphy has state certifications as Firefighter II, Basic EMT, Fire Instructor, Fire Safety Inspector, and Fire Investigator. He had first active accelerate sniffing K-9 (Nitro) in the State of Ohio working with Local Fire, Police, and even State Fire Marshalls Office on suspicious fire. He also worked several homicide cases as Nitro did cadaver work. He has worked with Boy Scouts of America as a Merit Badge instructor of Fire Safety.
Currently, as of 2014, Murphy serves as a Board Member for the Southern Ohio Fire & EMS School for the past 18 years. Other interests include playing golf, gardening, working on safety crew at Moler race track, and providing EMS service for a private Go-Kart club.
