Candy Meadors

Class of 1966 | 2024 Hall of Fame

Candace “Candy” Meadors was a true warrior in every sense - her life embodied passion, perseverance, and an unwavering devotion to her beloved Goshen community. She was born on February 4, 1948 and grew up working on her family's farm along St. Rt. 28 in Goshen, Ohio. She attended Goshen Local Schools from kindergarten through 12th grade, graduating with the Class of 1966.

After high school graduation, Candy began attending Eastern Kentucky University. In 1970, she married Robert Carson Meadors, and together they raised three children - Stacey, Jeffrey, and Kathryn - and were blessed with six grandchildren. For two decades, the family made their home in Milford before returning to her cherished Goshen roots.

Candy's professional journey took her to the insurance industry, working for Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Community Mutual. When unexpectedly laid off in the early 1990s, she seized the opportunity to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. With tenacity, she balanced part-time jobs while earning her degree. Tragically, her husband Carson passed away in 1997, just as Candy's new career was blossoming. However, she found immense purpose as a teacher at Goshen Local Schools until her retirement.

Beyond the classroom, Candy embraced every aspect of community life - serving on the Goshen High School Alumni Committee, volunteering at the Goshen Methodist Church, and working the annual Holly Fair. Her love for the Warriors extended to the athletic fields, where she avidly supported the teams. She even attended a  football game on the final evening of her active and vibrant life. Candy also had extreme passions for travel, golf, card playing, and rooting on her favorite Cincinnati Reds.

After losing her beloved Carson, Candy eventually reconnected with her "old Goshen flame" Joe Steele. Together, they cherished their golden years, surrounded by family and friends in the community she held so dearly. Candy lived a full circle, Warrior life before passing unexpectedly on August 29, 2023 at age 75. Her enduring love for Goshen will forever be etched upon the hearts of all who knew her. Her devotion to the community, schools and the Goshen Alumni make her a worthy 2024 inductee into the Goshen High School Alumni Association Hall of Fame.
